타인의 욕망을 모방해 의식하고 경쟁하듯 눈에서 멀어져 치고 올라가는 고층 건물들로 변이된 상황에서 엄습한 위화감과 위촉감, 작가의 복잡한-인간의 보편적-심정이 일관되게 그의 그의 작업으로 포징 되어 온 것으로 보인다. 그래서 작품의 주체가 욕망이라기 보다 작가는 자신의 욕망을 깊이 관조하려는 시도가 그의 작품에 투영된 것이며 그의 진심이 담긴 작품에서 우리는 똬리를 틀고 있는 우리의 본성인 욕망을 한 올 한 올 끄집어낼 수 있는 것이다.

욕망, 희망, 꿈, 삶의 열정 등 모두 같은 뿌리에서 피어난 다른 이름일 뿐, 여전히 그 경계에서 아슬아슬하게 조율하며 끈질긴 삶의 의지로 살아가고 있는 고귀하고 빛나는 인간이 있을 뿐이다.

욕망을 욕망하고 욕망이 욕망을 낳고...... 자기 안에 있는 욕망의 근원이 무엇인지에 대한 판단과 주체화할 필요가 있으며 타인의 욕망을 모방하면 결국 내 안에 내가 없는 욕망만이 남을 뿐, 똑같은 모습의 복제된 욕망만이 난무할 것이다. 마치 초고층 건물들처럼.

작가 김진희 작품을 통해 진정한 나의 욕망이 무엇인지, 있다면 어떤 모습인지, 거대한 욕망 이면에는 그보다 숭고하게 빛나는 꿈과 희망과 그리고 인간이 함께 놓여 있다는 작가의 진심을 깊이 관조하길 진정 욕망한다.

In an environment transformed by high-rise buildings—structures that seem to compete and rise ever higher by mimicking and internalizing the desires of others—the artist experiences a profound sense of alienation and unease. This complex, yet universal, human emotion has consistently been embodied in the artist’s work. Rather than focusing on desire itself as the subject, the artist’s practice is a deep contemplation of personal longing, a process reflected in each piece. Through the sincerity of these works, viewers are invited to unravel the coiled threads of their own innate desires.

Desire, hope, dreams, and the passion for life are all different names for impulses that spring from the same root. At the edge of these boundaries, the noble and radiant will to live persists—tenaciously and precariously balanced. Desire begets desire, and the cycle continues. It is essential to discern and take ownership of the origins of our own desires; otherwise, by merely imitating the desires of others, we are left with nothing but empty, replicated longings—much like the indistinguishable silhouettes of skyscrapers.

Through Kim Jinhee’s work, we are encouraged to reflect on the true nature of our own desires—what they are, and what forms they take. Beneath the surface of overwhelming desire, the artist suggests, lie dreams, hope, and the luminous essence of humanity, all of which deserve our deepest contemplation.
