농어촌의 고령화로 대신할 사람이 없어지면서 농경지는 휴경지가 되었다. 새롭게 선보이는 “풀땅_살아있는 소멸”은 과거에는 누군가 경작을 했지만, 어느 순간 작물을 재배하지 않으므로 휴경지가 되었고 그곳에는 풀과 잡초가 자리를 차지한 모습을 통해 현재 우리나라가 직면하고 있는 인구소멸과 지역소멸을 간접적으로 보여준다. 작가는 일 지역의 문제가 아니라 전국적인 모습임을 강조하기 위해 ‘용암리’라는 지명을 사용하는 지역을 검색하여 그곳의 현재 모습을 사진과 영상으로 촬영하여 모두 보여준다.

“Pulddang_Living Extinction” (풀땅_살아있는 소멸) addresses the phenomenon of farmland abandonment caused by rural depopulation and aging in Korea. As the rural population ages and there are no successors to continue farming, once-cultivated fields become fallow, overtaken by wild grasses and weeds. This transformation of farmland visually and symbolically reflects the broader issues of population and regional extinction facing Korea today.

To emphasize that this is not just a local issue but a nationwide trend, the artist searches for places named “Yongam-ri” across the country. By photographing and filming the current state of these locations, the artist presents a comprehensive view of how depopulation and abandonment are manifesting throughout Korea.

Through this work, the artist indirectly highlights the urgent demographic challenges and the gradual disappearance of rural communities, making visible the living traces of extinction in the Korean countryside.
