작품자료 옻칠에 수묵화적 기법을 구사함으로써 붓의 표현력을 강조하는 경향이다.  옻칠이라는 점질의 재료는 수묵화의 일회적인 붓질과 달라 선염효과를 표현하기 쉽지 않다.  그럼에도 불구하고 강렬한 원색과 검정색을 조화시키면서 수묵화에 근접하는 시각적인 효과를 얻고 있다. 산수화의 이미지가 옻칠을 통해 또 다른 깊이가 느껴지는 옻칠회화로 변화하는 과정을 그대로 보여준다.  특히 검정색과 원색의 대비를 통해 생의 에너지를 응축시키고 있다는 느낌이다.  수묵화가 가지고 있는 심도 깊은 표현을 어떻게 옮겨올 수 있는가가 하나의 과제이다. 검정색의 옻칠과 원색적인 채색을 유합시킴으로써 또 다른 차원의 수묵화적 조형세계의 가능성을 열어놓아 본다.

By employing lacquer (ottchil) with techniques reminiscent of traditional ink painting, the artist emphasizes the expressive potential of the brush. Unlike the spontaneous, single-stroke nature of ink painting, lacquer is a viscous material that makes it challenging to achieve effects such as graded washes. Nevertheless, the artist skillfully harmonizes vivid primary colors with deep blacks, attaining a visual effect that closely resembles ink painting.

This process demonstrates how the imagery of traditional landscape painting (sansuhwa) transforms into lacquer painting, offering a new depth and dimension. The striking contrast between black and primary colors serves to concentrate and embody the energy of life within the work. A central challenge for the artist is how to translate the profound expressiveness of ink painting into the medium of lacquer.

By fusing black lacquer with vibrant colors, the artist opens up new possibilities for an ink painting-inspired visual language within the realm of lacquer painting, exploring a unique and contemporary sculptural world.
